No more hockey in New England

May 27th, 2009

The Providence Bruins were eliminated after losing two straight at home. Sunday’s loss was a lost in OT and Mondays was… well, it was just a loss.

The plus side is that the Providence club is a young team which bodes well for Boston’s hockey future.

RIP Milan (the cat)

May 24th, 2009

We got a cat over a year ago and her name was Sidney. Of course, that name wouldn’t do because it brought up horrible images of “The Kid”. After deciding it needed to be a Boston name (the girlfriend and I live in CT now), I came up with Milan.

She got a cold a few weeks ago and never regained her appetite after that. After another vet visit, and blood tests, she was given some liver medication and an appetite stimulant. She was in at the vet every couple of days for the past two weeks for fluids and monitoring. This morning, she was very weak and couldn’t walk straight. Her back legs were not sturdy at all, so we brought her to the local emergency animal hospital. The X rays revealed a severely misshapen liver and fluid in her lungs – sure signs of pretty advanced cancer.

At her age (at least 12 human years), there was little to be done. The hospital had some short term solutions, but the long term solution – chemo, was not viable for a cat her age. It wasn’t the money that prevented it – it was the realization that it was just going to put her through too much.

Anyway, this is only on this site due to her name. When I told Jim I wanted to write for this site, one of the reasons I gave was that I even named my cat after Lucic. She was named after the baddest badass on the team even though she herself was a sweetheart. She sat next to me on the couch for each of the Montreal games, not moving much until the games were over (or until I stood up and screamed after a goal or a fight).

At least where she is now, the Bruins win the Stanley Cup every day (and Luch gets a hat trick in every game 7).

Injuries and more injuries

May 18th, 2009

Looks like a handful of Bruins were playing with some pretty good boo-boos this post season.

David Krejci will undergo hip surgery.
Phil Kessel will go in for repairs to fix his torn rotator cuff and labrum.
Andrew Ference will undergo groin surgery.
Chuck Kobasew played with two broken ribs.

We wish you a speedy recovery.

Captain Jeremy Reich leads the Providence Bruins against the Hershey Bears

After winning the series opening in Hershey, the Providence Bruins fell the Bears last night.

Tukka Rask did all he could with 37 saves and Brad Marchand’s power play goal came too late in the third as the B’s came up short.

The B’s play at the Dunk this Friday, Sunday and Monday at 7:05! It’s yet to be announced if Lucic or the other cleared Big Bruins will actually be playing in Providence.

Even at Fenway the crowd was interested in the B’s game. The score was kept on the Monster the whole game, and there were clips shown on the big screen after the B’s game was over. Very awesome!

It was good to see the team get back to what got them here in the first place. They shot the puck, they took the body effectively and generally let the other team know they were there to play.

The B's need to play back to back quality games!
