T-E-A-M! 3-0

April 21st, 2009

Another awesome game by the B’s. No matter the flurry of offense the Habs threw at them nothing seemed to rattle the B’s too much tonight.

Bitz was exactly what the B’s needed him to be. No one could tell that this was his first post season game.

While on the topic of post season firsts… congrats Thorty! Shawn Thornton got his first post season goal of his career tonight (with a helper to Bitzy!). It’s a bit comical that Bergergon gets into his first career fight in the same series that Thornton gets his first career post season goal.

And of course, it almost goes without saying, but there were numerous HUGE saves by Thomas throughout the game to keep the Habs and their fans out of it.

To keep with the Mortal Kombat theme…. “Finish him!”

Lucic Suspended!

April 20th, 2009

For the shot he took on Lapierre at the end of game 2.

Read the full story from NHL.com right here.

Unfortunately we know this played right into the Habs’ hands. This is exactly what they were trying to do.

And another story on the suspension from CBC. It’s interesting to note the second story at the end calls scrums and such at the end of games “bullying” and “stupid hockey.” Well why were there no repercussions for the Habs’ actions after game 1?

On that note it’s Bitzy time – time to show Montreal that you can be the same wrecking ball Lucic is!

Thort, Luch and Savard?!

February 27th, 2009

Only the second period so far but what a display of total team play. Hunwick is taking care of business on both ends of the ice, Thomas is looking like the All Star he is (with his saves AND his assist!).

Thornton responds early in the second and has a go with Parros. Thort held is own, taking a few shots and ultimately got the take down. Parros looks like he’d play on the antagonist’s team in a movie.

Luch absolutely pounded Brown. Definitely not your normal bout. That was a personal battle being fought. He was certainly fired up afterwards.

We learned that Savy can only be pushed so far. Not much of a fight due to what looked like a loss of balance.

Of course, thrown in between all this fighting is four B’s goals with two of them scored by Kobasew.

Great fire and great team chemistry happening tonight.

John Bishop wrote it best…
“That is a fired up Bruins team going to the locker room. Anaheim poked the bear and the bear woke up.”

This should be an exciting third period!

Not too much excitement so far, but Bitz shines again.  Good effort, good show of strength as he scores his fourth goal of the season.

Bitzy! And Friends.

February 25th, 2009

Bitz proved why he is the AHL’er still on the big B’s roster tonight. A few hits, and of course two sweet goals.

Luch returned to form with some big hits. Some of the hits were HUGE. Axelsson also had a pretty big hit in the third that was a bit of a shock to me!

It was nice to see Bergeron get a real goal too. That was a sweet play! In the same line of thought, it was great to see Ryder get a goal after coming back.

And what’s an awesome B’s win without gloves getting dropped? You knew it was only a matter of time before Chucky mixed it up. He had some nice big hits and was all over the ice as he usually is.

Awesome team effort tonight

February 18th, 2009

This is the best they’ve looked in a while. Good power plays, good penalty killing (SHG in the third!). Luch had an assist, a bunch of shots and bunch of hits. He keeps coming closer to back in form.

The Bitz, Thornton, Yelle line was fun to watch all game. I’d have to imagine that would be a hell of a line to go up against in a line brawl!  Bergeron played very well – even had a huge hit in the 2nd.  Sobotka made his presence know with his “Little Big Man” (thanks Jack Edwards!) style of play all night long.

Timmy was the man again. How many times has that been the story line for a B’s game this season?

Bitz lights the lamp

February 9th, 2009

If there was one positive to take away from Saturday’s OT loss to Philly, it was Bitz’s fantastic play. Saturday that play led to his first NHL goal.

No action shots, but here’s a pic of the celebration after that shot.

Celebration after Byron Bitz's first NHL goal

Another positive is Lucic finally getting some good hits on people. There were only a handful, but that was more than he’s had since coming back from his shoulder injury.

Bruins 3 inmates 1

February 1st, 2009

Wow, first off, what the hell are they thinking with those jerseys. Those have to be the single most horrific uniforms in history. Secondly, the Canadiens can bring any thug they want (HENRY) and they will be dispatched right quick. Thornton continues to shine with Bitz, could he be the next 7th player?

Brashear is a goon

January 28th, 2009

I still don’t like him. Good for Bitz for standing up and going at it. The fight started out slow, and Brashear got what looked like a few good shots in at the end.

Bitz is fighting, Thornton is scoring. Who’d have thunk it?

Seek and Destroy!

January 13th, 2009

I finally got back to the Garden on 1/10 for the Carolina game.  The game was a good display of what has made this Bruins team so successful all season.  Great hitting, lots of offense, and a pretty stingy defense.

With Luch out of the line up, the B’s called up Byron Bitz who certainly made his presense known.  Bitz collected four hits and his first NHL point in his first game up.  In a side note, I saw him walk by as I waited for the players to leave.  Unfortunately I wasn’t 100% sure it was him (with his parents), so I didn’t approach him.  Sorry Bitz!  Great game nonetheless.

The title of this post comes from the highlight of the game: Hunwick’s first NHL fight.   From the ferocious mid ice hit to defending himself amongst a pack of  ‘Canes, it was nice to see Matt come to life.  You could tell in the stands that he was fired up during the fight, and the last haymaker he threw was something else!  After the fight, Metallica’s “Seek and Destroy” played in the Garden and the whole place was electric.  That moment ranks up there with Game 6 last year and the Stars game this year.  Awesome fight not just because he won, but because he stood his ground.
