So no suspension or punishment for Cooke. I’m a bit surprised by this. While you can argue whether it was clean or not, whether or not he was “hunting” Savvy or not… The question that pops into my head is, what if it was Crosby, Malkin, Ovi or even Kane on the receiving end of a hit like that. Would the outcome from Campbell have been different?
Campbell’s explanation was that in the rule book, there is no penalty for what Cooke did. Cooke didn’t leave his feet. Campbell declared that Cooke didn’t throw an elbow.

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has placed forward Marc Savard on long term injured reserve (broken left foot) and has recalled forward Trent Whitfield from Providence on an emergency basis. Savard is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury
WOW! — All I can muster is WOW.

Waiting outside the players’ exit was interesting again Saturday. Thornton was in the passenger seat of a RI plated Jeep and did not stop. Ryder reluctantly stopped his Escalade to sign autographs. Savvy stopped his Land Rover, Sharpie in hand ready to go which I thought was awesome. Especially after a game like that one. Brick stopped to sign stuff, as did Bob Sweeney. Even Julien stopped his Land Rover as well on the way out.

Luch and Savy are currently missing from the bench at the start of the third period. If I had to guess Luch is either getting stitches on that hand or he broke it trying to punch through Mike Browns head. As far as Savard goes one can only speculate that the hit he took from Parros is causing a little discomfort. Lets hope they both come back tonight.

Only the second period so far but what a display of total team play. Hunwick is taking care of business on both ends of the ice, Thomas is looking like the All Star he is (with his saves AND his assist!).
Thornton responds early in the second and has a go with Parros. Thort held is own, taking a few shots and ultimately got the take down. Parros looks like he’d play on the antagonist’s team in a movie.
Luch absolutely pounded Brown. Definitely not your normal bout. That was a personal battle being fought. He was certainly fired up afterwards.
We learned that Savy can only be pushed so far. Not much of a fight due to what looked like a loss of balance.
Of course, thrown in between all this fighting is four B’s goals with two of them scored by Kobasew.
Great fire and great team chemistry happening tonight.
John Bishop wrote it best…
“That is a fired up Bruins team going to the locker room. Anaheim poked the bear and the bear woke up.”
This should be an exciting third period!
Not too much excitement so far, but Bitz shines again. Good effort, good show of strength as he scores his fourth goal of the season.

Chara broke the 16 year old Hardest Shot record Saturday night and won his third consecutive Hardest Shot contest recording a 105.4 MPH laser beam. The previous record was held by Al Iafrate at 105.2 in 1993.
Blake Wheeler also took home a new trophy. He was the MVP of the young stars game, netting 3 goals to lead the rookies over the sophmores. This kid has some mad skills.
Marc Savard finished second the Elimination Shootout behind Phoenix’s Shane Doan.
Who could forget Timmy, he came up with save after save.
Lets hope the trend continues and the B’s players can help lead the EAST to a victory tonight.
